BE STUBBORN ABOUT YOUR GOALS, AND FLEXIBLE ABOUT YOUR METHODS

One of the things that I’ve struggled with over the past few years has been my consistency in the gym. No, not my mindset and willingness to go, its been my health. For years I would hit a peak of working out at the gym and finally being able to attain my goals and then suddenly, my body would place a physical roadblock in front of me where I wasn’t able to even function normally doing every day tasks. One of the trends in my medical history for those who don’t know has been dizziness and passing out which don’t exactly go hand in hand with a daily workout routine. For those who aren’t familiar with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, its when the body’s immune system attacks against the thyroid. The thyroid hormones help regulate breathing, muscle strength, metabolism, heart rate, body weight, body temperatures, and many other things! That being said, its one of those roadblocks that you can’t exactly ignore and go the route of “mind over matter” (trust me, I’ve tried this and failed many times). Over the years, I’ve finally realized that sometimes your body needs a break and there are some things that are out of your control. I tried to hard to fight this and think that if I mentally was able to push through it, I could do anything! But the well being of your health is far more important than how your image appears to others. The biggest struggle for me has been being a personal trainer and wanting to look the part, I’ve asked myself “how can I do this when all I’ve been doing is resting the past two months?” Part of being a trainer might be looking the part, but realistically the job also entails being a human and knowing that things happen that aren’t always ideal! The biggest part of this is knowing that you’re doing everything you can to be healthy even if that means taking time off of the gym and spending more times figuring out how you are able to benefit your health in a positive way. As I’ve been easing myself back into my normal routine at the gym its been a struggle to have to hold back on some of the weight or intensity that I’m used to. However, through the duration of the past two months I’ve gained so much patience and I’ve learned how control my thoughts in the way I interpret difficult/negative situations which has been such an amazing lesson to learn! To anyone struggling with a difficult time with their health or even a situation in their life, try to turn the negative/unpleasant situation into an opportunity for self growth in order to benefit you in a positive light. The more you engage those “mental muscles”, the amount of negativity in your life seems to vanish and you’ll find yourself having more great days than not!
